Commitment Fee
Every year, there is a non-refundable committment fee of $100. This is due week 10 for existing families. For new families, the committment fee is due as soon as you receive your welcome email and are accepted onto the Sonlight website.
Class fees vary every semester. There can be a fee of $2 to approx $75 depending on the class. Before registration, each family will be able to access the current class matrix and read the class description. This description contains any fees associated with the class, as well as if the book(s) are included or seperate and the expected work load for the student.
Sonlight works as a true cooperative to keep fees reasonable. This means that each adult attending with their students will be required to assist in some fashion for every hour attended. In addition, each family has either ONE teaching requirement to fulfill OR a cleaning committment at the end of the Sonlight day.
Graduation Requirements
Sonlight Senior Class Requirements for Graduating
During the school year
Both a parent and the senior must enroll in at least 3 class hours of classes for the entire year and pass with a minimum of a “C” with no discipline problems.
Two classes must be something other than study hall. It can be elective or core.
Both a parent and senior must actively participate in pizza/candy sales during lunch and other Senior tasks before or after school. This means all seniors must stay at Sonlight during lunch even if they are not taking 4th or 5th-hour classes.
The senior class should participate in at least one service project during the school year. This is planned by the senior class. Ideas- OCC in December, something at the church, Feed My Starving Children, etc.
Both the parent and senior may NOT have more than 3 absences per semester. There is a $150 graduation fee- due the third week of the fall semester. - Fee includes cap/gown, tassel, & diploma, and towards rental of church.
A parent must make every effort to attend all senior parent meetings. These are outside of Sonlight hours—Important to have 1st meeting late July/early August to figure out roles and responsibilities, and especially pizza fundraiser. Also, there is usually an additional one in the fall, and up to 3 in the spring. One being at Sonlight during lunch.
A parent must work as a lead and support on a senior class committee. The senior mom has a list of those responsibilities and will be contacting you this summer.
Class social activities are highly encouraged/required. This helps build friendships/camaraderie. Seniors are busy, but one or two a semester is doable if planned in advance. Some ideas from past classes- Senior Sunrise/Sunset, Fall or Christmas party, ice skating, camping trip close to the DFW area, prom.
Graduation weekend
The graduation date is chosen by the class. However, the coordinators will help determine a date if the class can not agree. Dates to choose from- The first 3 weekends in May (Depending with Memorial weekend is- could be first 4 weekends.) The church we have been using doesn’t allow for Memorial Day weekend. Graduation should occur before Memorial Day.
One parent and the senior must be at the graduation facility the day before to help set up and decorate for graduation.
Each senior will have a table display for the reception.
Both parents and the senior must participate in the graduation rehearsal Friday night before graduation.
One parent from each family MUST stay to help with the breakdown and clean up after reception until the entire clean up is complete. Senior parents are responsible for returning items to Sonlight closet, and no items can be left at the graduation facilities.
This is an exciting time, and we appreciate everyone's good ideas. Sonlight has policies and procedures in place to ensure graduation is enjoyable, stays within budget, and meets responsible parent responsibilities. Please be respectful and kind to one another. It's a great year when everyone contributes and supports one another.
